The story behind the name "Camone"

Lagos was and still is the last train and Bus stop on the Algarve West Coast, a place where many tourists arrive with their backpacks looking for sun, fun and wonderful beaches.

In the mid 70/80's there was a big "Touristic Boom" in the Algarve. The hotels facilities were not sufficient for the demand and for all the tourists that were arriving.Because of that, some of the local people (including our grandparents) saw the opportunity to face the economical crisis and began to rent the "extra bedroom" they had in their homes.

They use to go to the train and bus stations with posters saying: "ROOMS"; "ZIMMERS"; "BEDROOMS". They were looking for tourists to rent their "extra bedroom"! Most of these locals couldn't speak foreign languages, and the communication was almost gestural with the exception of the word "come on".

So, trusting the Lacobrigenses ( name of Lagos people), the tourists followed them, listening several times along the way the word "come on, come on".

Soon, everyone started calling foreign tourists as "Camones" . It's not at all a word with bad connotation or derogatory, but simply a nice way to identify our dear foreign visitors.
If you're reading this and you are a foreign tourist or traveler, for us you are a "Camone", so, welcome to our beautiful and friendly city of Lagos and to our fantastic Hostel ! We're waiting for you with wide open arms!!

Camone Hostel has five comfortable and spacious, full of natural light dorms, two of them ( Salinas and Aquarium) with a balcony.
The bedrooms feature a simple but beautiful décor, alluding to the "Sea" theme, all have single beds, bedding, bath towel, individual locker, dimming system with curtains, hangers and cleaning service. The front and bedroom doors open with key card.
The bedrooms are distributed in two floors. On the 1st floor we have "Coral Bay", a mix dorm with 5 single beds. Also on the 1st floor we can find "Byron Bay" bedroom, which consists of 6 beds, and it is our female ward.
On the second floor we find, "Aquarium" and "Nautilus" both mixed dorms with 6 individual beds.
For those who want a little more privacy we have "Salinas", a dormitory also mixed, with 6 individual beds. There, you can enter into what resembles a small ship's cabin, shut the curtain and have your own privacy.
All rooms are eqquiped with fans and all beds have individual reading light, locker and double sockets.

With a prime location, CamoneHostel has a Café where you can find a variety of "healthy foods", salads, snacks and bites, daily natural juices, pastries, detox water, and much more in a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable terrace, all with candlelight and the sea taste in the air ...

Since long that Lagos nightlife is known for its night beach parties, theme parties, bars open till late and street animation.

The animation and the party are part of the environment where we are at, but we also need to relax and rest. We are not a "Party Hostel," but we like to have fun. Here, we quietly slow down the pace and recharge batteries for the party next day.
